Summer Strong: A Legacy of Hope, A Future Without Childhood Cancer
Summer was born in August 2014 and brought constant joy, silliness, and positivity to our family. She was an easy-going girl who loved all things Disney, especially Pixar’s Monsters, Inc., and taking excellent care of her three dogs: Daisy, Buzz, and Lilly. She had a passion for music, sparkly manicures, and a constant stream of Mickey Mouse and Doc McStuffins.
In March 2015, at just seven months old, doctors discovered a 10 cm mass in her liver. What was initially thought to be hepatoblastoma was later identified as a rare Malignant Rhabdoid Tumor. For over a year and a half, Summer bravely faced continuous, high-intensity treatments, including extensive surgeries, a stem cell transplant, and radiation.
She never let her cancer define her, and even on the hardest days, she found a way to play and be happy. She passed away at home, surrounded by our family, in September 2016 at the age of two. She was the strongest person any of us will ever get the chance to meet, and she remains our absolute hero.
Shortly after Summer’s diagnosis, our family and friends became involved with Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation to try and make lemonade out of an unimaginable situation. The world of childhood cancer is scary and uncontrollable, but focusing on making a positive impact helped us navigate the toughest times.
Today, Team Summer Strong has grown into an incredible community with supporters ranging from age 1 to 95. We have been represented across the country at lemonade stands, school fundraisers, and races in Orlando, New York, and Philadelphia.
A child should never have to wait for a lifesaving clinical trial. By joining us on the green, you are helping aggressively fund research so kids like Summer get the childhood they desperately deserve.
